Ministry of Deacons
Deacons Ministry
It is the Deacons’ duty to shore up and oversee the needs of God’s house and God’s people, and to support and assist the Pastor and the ministerial staff so that they would be free to concentrate on seeing to the spiritual needs of the body of Christ.
In assisting the pastor with the simple tools to facilitate the bringing of the word, we also attend to the comfort and any special needs the Pastor’s family may have, including special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and any other celebrated occasions.
Our deacons accomplish these tasks through both personal and team involvement. EMBC Deacons are charged with 3 overarching tasks in the church by-laws:
1. Caring for the church’s members and other persons in the community.
2. Leading the church in achieving its mission.
3. Promoting and participating in the church’s outreach and visitation.
Deaconess Ministry
As Titus 2:4-5 instructs us, the Deaconess ministry seeks to serve Christ in a personal way as a unified body…being Godly women. The focus of this ministry shall be to assist the pastor and thus allowing him to devote more time to prayer and the word.
The role/responsibilities of the Deaconess shall be to assist the Pastor when called upon to do so. The goal of this ministry is to be faithful, active members who seek unity of the spirit, moving forward together to accomplish the vision of the Shepherd of this house.
Our assistance to the Pastor allows him to devote more time to prayer and the word. As part of our role in the church we are charged with:
- Making visits/contacts to those listed on weekly ministry in form.
- Be available for prayer time with pastor on Sunday Mornings.
- Serve as prayer counselors during the worship services.
Ushers & Nurses Ministry
“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
– Psalm 84:10
Usher Ministry
Although an usher’s love should be no stronger than is the love found in the rest of the body of Christ, the usher performs a major role in ensuring that people see and experience that love. In Christ, you have received God’s unconditional love. And, in Christ you are called to extend that same unconditional love to others. The ministry of ushering is crucial because it is one of the most visible in the church.
More than a “greeter and a seater”, we are doorkeepers in the house of God and forerunners for our Pastor. We are often the first person our members and visitors encounter at the church. They are sometimes burdened, sad or discouraged. Each person, member or newcomer, comes with the hope that the Sabbath will be an experience of uplifting and inspiration, a time of renewal and celebration.
As skillful ushers, we help to make this a reality for those in attendance.
Nurse Ministry
Music Ministries
Music Ministry
Our ultimate goal as a ministry is to lead the congregation in praise and worship, to set the proper atmosphere for the Word of God to come forth and to bless others through the musical gifts that have been given to glorify the Lord.
We strive to sing to the glory of God and exhibit a Christian attitude. We lift the lowered-spirits of the down-hearted and inspire hope through the power of uplifting music in conjunction with the spoken word.
The Music Ministry consist of the following choirs:
- Inspirational Praise Choir
- Houston Women’s Choir
- Male Chorus
- Youth Choir
Inspirational Praise Choir
The Inspirational Praise Choir (IPC) serves Christ by lifting our voices in song, during worship service. Psalms 147:1 says “Praise ye the Lord; for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant and praise is comely.”
Houston Women's Choir
Named to honor past pastor Moses S. Houston, the Houston Women’s Chorus serves Christ by delivering the gospel message in song. President Melva Houston reminds us of the necessity of always trying to be obedient to Christ and His word.
Male Chorus
The Male Chorus is a group of men who serve Christ by enthusiastically lifting up songs of praise to Him.
Youth Choir
Like the other choir ministries, the Youth Choir serves Christ with songs of praise during the worship service. We hope our spirit of praise inspires other young people everywhere.

Trustee Ministry
As Trustees, we are responsible for the upkeep of church property. We also act as legal custodians of business as directed by the church, in partnership with the pastor and Deacons.
The purpose of our ministry is to administer the finance of the Church using sound financial management principles and practices.
The responsibilities of the Trustees are fourfold:
- Management (Financial Affairs)
- Maintenance (Repairs and maintenance of
Church) - Mission (Develop the budget)
- Ministry (watchful eye & care of congregation & sanctuary.
Our mission is to be good stewards of the financial resources provided to EMBC in order to effectively win souls and build up the body of Christ. We accomplish this end by being teachable, spiritually strong and through a loving relationship with God and our pastor.
Pastor's Care Ministry
Benevolence and Bereavement is a vital ministry where members and people in the community may request assistance. Caring competent people are in place to minister to those in need promptly, professionally, and prayerfully.
Benevolence & Bereavement Ministry
Culinary Ministry
This ministry prepares food for special events such as church and pastoral anniversaries, picnics, repasts and receptions. The Culinary Ministry maintains control of the food pantry and extensive kitchen inventory, and advises all ministries that plan to serve food.
Decoration Ministry
For this is the word of the Lord: Behold I will both search my sheep and
seek them out. I will bind up those who are broken, and will strengthen
those who are sick. – Ezekiel 34: 12,16
With the focus on the Savior, we believe the beautification of the sanctuary and other areas enhances the worship experience. We serve Christ by decorating the church facilities for regular services and special programs.
Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry is likely the toughest job in the church. Not because of the kids, but because of the challenge of finding creative ways to introduce young children and teens to Jesus Christ and to make God both real and relevant to them. This challenge requires a specialized calling and real gift from God. Not everybody can do this and we are committed to the unique opportunity that has been bestowed upon us.
The mission of the Youth Ministry is to impact students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Sprit that they may come to know Him as savior and follow Him as Lord in the ministry and fellowship of His Church.
The youth ministry is also the ministry which allows for young people to learn various facets of the same ministry in which older members participate. It is the venue where young people can freely express their opinions about God, church, community, and themselves.
The purpose of the Youth Ministry is to lift up and exalt Jesus Christ in everything we do while equipping young people with Biblical truth. We are committed to encouraging youth to become actively engaged in ministries throughout the fellowship of the church. It is our goal to make living saved an everyday lifestyle and not just on Sunday.
